Nanatili ang simbahang katolika ng Pilipinas bilang mahalagang pundasyon at haligi tungo sa pagpapalalim ng kamalayan ng mga Pilipino sa paninindigan sa soberanya ng Pilipinas.
Ito ang nagkakaisang mensahe nina Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela, spokesperson ng Philippine Coast Guard for the West Philippine Sea, Ateneo School of Government Retired Rear Admiral Rommel Jude Ong at Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism Regine Cabato kung paano higit na makakatulong ang simbahan para sa pagkakaisa ng mga Pilipino upang higit na manindigan sa inaangking West Philippine Sea at pagharap ngayon sa suliranin ng “Foreign Manipulation and Interference” o FIMI.
Naniniwala si Tarriela na mahalaga ang papel ang Simbahang Katolika sa paghubog ng kamalayan ng publiko at pagkakaisa ng bansa tulad ng kakayahang mag-udyok ng People Power.
Sinabi ni Tarriela na maaaring muling pag-isahin ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines ang mga Pilipino anuman ang kulay ng politika, lalo na sa pagtatanggol sa soberanya ng bansa.
“If you’re going to ask me how the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines or the Roman Catholic Church can support our fight in the Philippines, I think and I still believe that the Catholic Church remains to be very influential in calling out its followers and churchgoers to support the national government and to counter fake news and misinformation,” ayon sa panayam ng Radyo Veritas kay Tarriela.
Binigyang-diin naman ni Cabato na mahalaga ang papel ng Simbahan sa paglaban sa disinformation o fake news dahil ngayon ay higit ng napalakas ng simbahan ang kakayahan ng mga pari at obispo sa fact-checking at information integrity upang gabayan ang kanilang mga komunidad laban sa maling impormasyon at dayuhang impluwensya.
“The second reason why that’s also important is because the Catholic Church is actually also, in recent years, on the receiving end of influence operations themselves. So they’ve been constantly attacked. Priests that are critical of third-hand information, that are critical of China, are constantly attacked online, if you have noticed, and a lot of these influencers who pirate these talking points from China are also very anti-Catholic, or at least anti-Catholic Church. So there are trends there. And being able to fortify the Church against that is very important to keeping the information and the media literacy of the public intact,” bahagi ng panayam ng Radyo Veritas kay Cabato.
Tiwala din Ong na maaring mapalakas ng simbahan ang pagkakaisa ng mga Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng pagsasabuhay ng Land Use Act kung saan hindi hahayaang magamit ito ng mga dayuhan.
“Land use act. Yeah, the land use act. Maybe the Church particularly, I think Bishop Pabillo is also a vocalist in Palawan. But we need that discourse to be heard. I know there are other interests within our political sphere that actually make sure that the Land Use Act actually never sees the light of day,” bahagi ng panayam ng Radyo Veritas kay Ong.
