Mga botante, pinaalalahanan ng opisyal ng Simbahan sa vote buying at vote selling

Labag sa Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines Article XII at moralidad ang vote buying at vote selling.

Ito ang paalala ni Radio Veritas President Fr.Anton CT Pascual sa mga botante na pipili ng ihahalal na lider ng bansa sa May 2022 national at local elections.

Inihayag ni Fr. Pascual na ang pagtanggap ng pera sa mga pulitiko sa panahon ng halalan ay mali.

Binigyan diin ng Pari na kahit ang mahirap at kapuspalad na gipit sa buhay ay may dangal na makita ang tama sa mali sa pagtanggap sa pera.

“Ang pagtanggap ng pera sa mga pulitiko sa panahon ng halalan ay masasabi nating mali, kahit ang mahirap at kapuspalad na gipit sa buhay ay may dangal na makita ang tama sa mali sa pagtanggap sa pera. May panahon ang lahat ng bagay ayon nga sa Ecclesiastes 3:1.” pahayag ni Fr.Pascual sa panayam ng Radio Veritas

Iginiit naman ni 1987 constitutional framer Novaliches Bishop Emeritus Teodoro Bacani Jr., na sa vote buying ay kapwa ng nagkasala sa batas at moralidad ang kandidato at botante.

Naging mainit ang usapin sa vote buying matapos payuhan ng isang Presidential aspirant ang mga botante na tanggapin ang perang ibinibigay ng mga pulitiko pero huwag itong iboto sa araw ng halalan sa Mayo ng susunod na taon.

Nakasaad sa Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines Sec. 261 ang mga ipinagbabawal o Prohibited Acts.

The following shall be guilty of an election offense:

1. Vote-buying and vote-selling.
2. Any person who gives, offers or promises money or anything of value, gives or promises any office or employment, franchise or grant, public or private, or makes or offers to make an expenditure, directly or indirectly, or cause an expenditure to be made to any person, association, corporation, entity, or community in order to induce anyone or the public in general to vote for or against any candidate or withhold his vote in the election, or to vote for or against any aspirant for the nomination or choice of a candidate in a convention or similar selection process of a political party.
3. Any person, association, corporation, group or community who solicits or receives, directly or indirectly, any expenditure or promise of any office or employment, public or private, for any of the foregoing considerations.
4. Conspiracy to bribe voters. – Two or more persons, whether candidates or not, who come to an agreement concerning the commission of any violation of paragraph (a) of this section and decide to commit it.
