Inilunsad ng Archdiocese of Manila, sa pamamagitan ng Ministry on Integral Ecology, ang isang ecological initiative na layong ipunin ang gamit nang cooking oil mula sa mga parokya, institusyon, at sambahayan upang gawing biodiesel bilang ambag sa pangangalaga ng kalikasan at pagtugon sa pangangailangan sa enerhiya.
Sa liham-sirkular, hinikayat ni Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula ang mga mananampalataya na makiisa sa programa ng pangangalap at tamang pagproseso ng waste cooking oil upang maging malinis na alternative fuel.
“The collected oil will undergo proper processing, including collection, pre-treatment, transesterification, and purification by the Ministry on Intergal Ecology to be converted into usable biodiesel,” ayon sa liham ni Cardinal Advincula.
Mechanics:
1. Each parish is requested to designate a collection point for used cooking oil.
2. Parishioners are encouraged to store used cooking oil in clean, sealed containers, free from food waste and water.
3. Regular pick-up and processing of collected oil will be arranged.
4. Processed oil ready to use will be made available to those who submitted their used cooking oil. A donation per liter will be asked for the ministry’s cost of processing & hauling.
5. Basic information campaigns may be conducted to raise awareness on the environmental benefits of this initiative.
Nagkaroon ng orientation at workshop noong April 25, 2026 sa Ermita Parochial School sa Maynila, kung saan si Engr. Ed Brisenio, inventor ng biodiesel production, ang nagsilbing tagapagsalita tungkol sa mekanismo at teknolohiya ng koleksyon.
Binigyang-diin ng arkidiyosesis na ang inisyatiba ay konkretong pagsasabuhay ng panawagan ng Simbahan na maging mabubuting katiwala ng sangnilikha, alinsunod sa diwa ng Laudato Si’.
“Through this simple act, we live out our Christian responsibility to care for God’s creation. This initiative not only addresses environmental concerns but also contributes, in our own way, to easing pressures on energy resources,” saad ng liham.
Batay sa mga pagsusuri, patuloy na tumataas ang pandaigdigang demand sa langis, na inaasahang lalampas sa 105 milyong bariles kada araw sa 2025, habang ang patuloy na paggamit ng fossil fuel ay malaki ang ambag sa pagbabago ng klima dahil sa mataas na carbon emissions mula sa pagsusunog ng langis.
