The public are invited to venerate the image and first class relic of Saint Teresa of Avila to be enshrined at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel in Quezon City from October 6 to 15, 2016.

Saint Teresa of Avila was born in Gotarrendura, in the province of Ávila, Spain on 1515. After the death of her mother she was sent for her education to the Augustinian nuns at Ávila.

In the monastery she suffered greatly from illness. During these years of suffering she began the practice of mental prayer, eventually she started to have visions and the vivid sense of the presence of God that led her to a life of extreme devotion.

At the age of 43, she became determined to found a new convent that went back to the basics of a contemplative order: a simple life of poverty devoted to prayer. This effort met strong opposition from several quarters but, in 1562 she received an approval for a new foundation, the Descaled Carmelites later joined by Saint John of the Cross, eventually led to the establishment of new foundation for men that was placed under his care.

Saint Teresa was canonized by Pope Gregory XV on 1622 and was named a Doctor of the Church by Pope Paul VI on September 27, 1970. She is the patron saint of lacemakers, religious, headaches sufferers and sickness with her feast day celebrated on the 15th of October.

Devotees seeking for healing and other petitions may visit her relic and image from 8:00am until 5:00pm at the Radio Veritas chapel located at the second floor of Veritas Tower, 162 West Avenue cor EDSA in Quezon City. There will be an off-air novena for nine days leading to Saint Teresa of Avila’s feast day celebration. For inquiries, please call Ms. Renee Jose or Mr. Rey Isabela at (02) 925-7932 to 39 local 129.
