In celebration of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle will open the Holy Door of Mercy in Manila City Jail Chapel on March 23, 2016, with Archbishop Guiseppe Pinto, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.
Holy Doors are being opened throughout the world as symbols of God’s mercy to us, “…by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us. (Misericordiae Vultus 15)”.
In this Jubilee Year of Mercy, as Christians, we are all the more called to do corporal and spiritual works as concrete acts of mercy. One of the corporal works of mercy is to visit the imprisoned. Those who are incarcerated still need support, and through Caritas Manila’s Restorative Justice Program, pastoral care are extended to our lost brothers in prison.
Manila City Jail Chapel will be the first Holy Door of Mercy to be opened in the Archdiocese of Manila. Rev. Fr. Bobby dela Cruz, (Restorative Justice Minister) stressed the significance of this event for the inmates, “Ginagawa natin ito para maipadama natin sa kanila na sila ay kasama natin sa ating celebration ng Year of Mercy at sila din ay maging instrumento ng awa sa kanilang kapwa.”
The celebration of the Holy Eucharist will proceed after the opening of the Holy Door led by His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle. To concelebrate the mass are Rev. Fr. Anton Pascual (Executive Director, Caritas Manila), Rev. Fr. Bobby dela Cruz and Rev. Fr. Jason Laguerta (Head, Office of the Philippine Conference on the New Evangelization).
