Radio Veritas is inviting the faithful to venerate the image of Saint Gertrude the Great at the Our Lady of Veritas Chapel from November 11 to 16, 2016.
Saint Gertrude was born on January 6, 1256 in the little town of Eisleben in Thuringia. At the age of 5, Gertrude went to a monastery school of Helfta in Saxony, and since then she has always been known as “Gertrude of Helfta”.
Known as an early devotee of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Saint Gertrude experienced series of visions of Jesus throughout her life which started on 1281. These visions changed the course of her life. Her priorities shifted away from secular knowledge and toward the study of Scripture and theology. Gertrude devoted herself strongly to personal prayer and meditation, and began writing spiritual treatises for the benefit of her monastic sisters.
Gertrude died at Helfta, near Eisleben, Saxony in 1301. She is the patron Saint of the West Indies and the only woman among the saints to be called “the Great’: St. Gertrude the Great. Her feast day is celebrated on November 16.
Devotees of Saint Gertrude may visit her image from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Radio Veritas Chapel located at the second floor of Veritas Tower, 162 West Avenue cor EDSA in Quezon City. For inquiries, please call Ms. Renee Jose or Mr. Rey Isabela at (02) 925-7932 to 39 local 129.
