Hinimok ng opisyal ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na ilahad sa kanyang nalalapit na State of the Nation Address (SONA) ang malinaw, direkta, at epektibong mga patakaran upang tugunan ang mga pangunahing suliranin ng bansa.
Ayon kay Fr. Jerome Secillano, executive secretary ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines–Episcopal Commission on Public Affairs (CBCP-ECPA), hindi maaaring ipagwalang-bahala ang mga isyu ng kahirapan, katiwalian, kawalan ng trabaho, at kakulangan sa serbisyong pangkalusugan na patuloy na kinahaharap ng sambayanang Pilipino.
“Poverty, corruption, employment and health care are issues that directly affect Filipinos. It would be a disservice to the people if the President would not present clear policy directions that will address them,” ayon kay Fr. Secillano.
Binigyang-diin diin ng pari na kahit pa ipinagmamalaki ng administrasyon ang sinasabing mga tagumpay sa ekonomiya, hindi nito nababago ang katotohanang maraming Pilipino pa rin ang naghihirap at nagugutom.
“Enough is never enough when faced with the gargantuan task of addressing issues of poverty, hunger and unemployment. All those alleged economic breakthroughs reflected in numbers do not actually erase the reality that majority of Filipinos are still economically poor, dying from hunger and suffering from unemployment. In short, this administration still has a lot of work cut out for them to effectively address these issues.”
Nais din ng pari na marinig sa SONA ang mga kongkretong solusyon sa mga krisis na nararanasan ng karaniwang mamamayan.
“I wanna hear clear, direct, and effective policy strategies and solutions regarding existential crisis affecting the everyday Filipinos. He should avoid using platitudes and feel-good narratives that are clearly meant merely to impress but not realistically and effectively meant to provide solutions to the pressing issues we face.”
Bukod sa malinaw na direksyon, umaasa rin si Fr. Secillano na makikita sa Pangulo ang higit na katatagan at determinasyon sa pamumuno.
“As President, BBM should exude political toughness and aggressiveness in pushing our country forward and in alleviating the plight of Filipinos. I admire his prudence in speech, interpreted as decency, but I find it irrelevant if he will not be aggressive in taking action to make all government apparatus work for the good of all and not just the interest of a few.”
Bagama’t kinikilala ng pari ang kalmadong pamumuno ng Pangulo bilang isang positibong katangian, iginiit niyang higit na mahalaga ang pagiging masigasig at maagap sa pagtugon sa mga suliraning kinakaharap ng bansa.
Ipinaabot din ni Fr. Secillano ang kanyang hangarin na makita si Pangulong Marcos bilang isang matalinong tagapamahala ng ekonomiya, matatag na lider sa larangan ng politika, at matapang na pinunong may malinaw na bisyon para sa kinabukasan ng sambayanang Pilipino.
